Where did we start?

Arapahoe Community College (ACC) hosts a secondary campus is Littleton, CO called the Art & Design Center (A&DC). The preface of this project was to create an identity for the A&DC that could be associated with ACC, but still have it’s own look and feel. This would be to help this campus stand out a bit more, as now it recedes into the background of Littleton’s lively downtown community.

Workshopping

I worked through several concepts for the logo and identity. I wanted to bounce off the ACC identity’s use of “pathways” to describe degrees. Direction, purpose, progression: These were some of the driving words that floated around as I worked.

As I continued to develop my sketches, two ideas in particular stood out: A compass point and building blocks with a rising sun.

Finished Solution

After deliberation with my peers and professor, I moved forward with the compass idea. The letterforms “A” and “D” are utilized to build the shape, symbolic of exploration and direction. “Discover your potential.” became the driving force of this identity.

The final wordmark design drops the crossbar of the “A”, suggesting an arrow pointing upwards. The colors are pulled from the ACC standards, but orange is brought to the forefront alongside purple to represent creativity and optimism.

A pattern is made from repeating and alternating the logo with color variations, and symbols indicative of each of the departments within the building are present across various media, including the brochure mock.
